Care for the Environment

Plena Alimentos is committed to preserving the environment throughout the production chain.

We aim for cleaner and more sustainable production, through continuous environmental monitoring of processes and businesses, including customers and suppliers; we look for tools that develop strategic and innovative solutions to mitigate or eliminate environmental impacts and; we adopt practices that guarantee animal welfare in all our units, with humane procedures and the prevention of animal mistreatment from birth to slaughter.

Through solid and responsible environmental conduct, we reaffirm our commitment as a Company focused on sustainability from feedlot to production and transportation, so that there is no impact on the environment and no disrespect for animal welfare, and providing sustainable development in all our businesses.

For Plena, making a difference requires more awareness. To ensure this, we have qualified professionals who develop a unique environmental monitoring system, guaranteeing the quality and safety of all processes. Among the actions carried out, the following stand out:

Liquid effluents:

At all of Plena's production units you can find modern liquid effluent treatment systems, with excellent results in the treatment of the water used. We carry out the physicochemical and biological treatment of 100% of the liquid effluent generated, by means of the Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) and, whenever possible and applicable, we reuse the treated effluent for fertigation in pastureland, which is converted into a source of roughage for animal feed.

Atmospheric emissions:

To guarantee air quality, we treat the gases generated using filters, gas scrubbers and other applicable technologies to effectively manage the release parameters in accordance with current legislation. We monitor and control air pollution at all of the company's units, maintaining our commitment to generating less environmental impact.

Solid Waste Program:

We carry out solid waste management that identifies, segregates and disposes of all the waste generated correctly, promoting a reduction in the generation of common waste, carrying out selective collection and investing in technological solutions. Through this important tool, we partner with recycling companies, guaranteeing the program's efficiency.

Water consumption management:

Every day we manage water consumption by measuring the flow, drawing up water and sanitation projects, controlling leaks and applying techniques to reduce consumption and reuse water in areas of the company not related to product manufacturing, such as gardens, patios and toilets.

Environmental education programs:

We have adopted an annual calendar of events and campaigns that reinforce our internal and external environmental education program, such as SIPATMA week, Arbor Day, Water Day and Environment Day. In addition, we carry out introductory environmental training during the integration of new employees and with contractors, before the start of activities, generating environmental awareness. All these projects and investments reinforce Plena's commitment to minimizing the impacts related to its activities, making production processes more efficient and sustainable, and standing out as a unique company in all that it does.

Animal welfare:

As part of our commitment to ethics, sustainability and social responsibility, we adopt practices that guarantee animal welfare at all stages of handling and in all our slaughter plants. All this in an integrated and comprehensive manner, involving partners and suppliers in all processes.
Good practices include:
• Training animal transportation teams.
• Supervised transportation to ensure good treatment.
• In order to respect the animal's biology during pre-slaughter handling, we provide a cool environment with plenty of water.
• The handling and production process complies with current national standards, thus guaranteeing respect for the animals in the slaughter process.

Social Responsibility

With more than 32 years’ experience in the domestic and international cattle market, Plena Alimentos has always been absolutely committed to controlling the land and environmental regularity of its cattle suppliers and, for this reason, we adopt measures to guarantee the quality and conformity of all the animals purchased.

We work tirelessly to offer quality products, and we are committed to not purchasing cattle from areas of invasion of indigenous lands, areas embargoed by Ibama [Brazilian Institute for the Environment and Renewable Natural Resources], ecological corridors and environmental preservation areas, areas of deforestation of native and illegal forests, as well as cattle ranchers on the slave-like labor blacklist.

We register all suppliers of cattle for slaughter using the National Rural Environmental Registration System (SICAR). We monitor all cattle suppliers and only sell animals to farms that are 100% compliant with their sustainability policy when sourcing raw materials. To this end, we are advised by a consulting firm specializing in the registration, analysis and monitoring of all cattle purchases.

In all our operations, we are committed to sourcing raw materials from suppliers that comply with Brazilian environmental legislation. We are also committed to monitoring and safeguarding the correct execution of all the regulations listed in the Amazon Monitoring Protocol in all commercializations in Brazil. We are also in the process of continuously searching for the best technologies available on the market to start monitoring and tracking indirect cattle suppliers by the year 2025, so that all these indirect suppliers, located in the Amazon biome, will be monitored by the year 2030.

All these actions qualify us and allow us to export to more than 50 countries, including the Chinese market, complying with all its protocols.

We continue to adapt our processes in line with legal, market and customer requirements, reaffirming our commitment as a Company focused on sustainability from the time of confinement, production and transportation, so that there is no impact on the environment and no disrespect for animal welfare, providing sustainable development in all our businesses.
